Faith — Look Back and Meditate

Romans 9:30-32
The gospel proclaims God's grace given in Jesus Christ. Faith is not a power that produces that grace, but trust that receives God's promise in your heart and relies on him.
1. Faith Is the Hand That Receives Grace
The lecture compares faith to a pipeline through which water flows, and to a hand and vessel that receive a gift. Just as a pipeline does not make water and a hand does not make a gift, faith does not produce God's grace. Faith leads you to receive the promise of the gospel that God has already given.
Hebrews 11:1-2
Jesus spoke to people about faith and showed that unbelief can become a barrier to receiving God's work.
Matthew 13:58
The gospel is God's power for salvation to everyone who believes. Through faith in Jesus Christ, you enter the place of grace.

Q. Have you received an answer or experienced change when you heard God's word and prayed or obeyed in faith? If not, what would you honestly like to ask God for now?
2. Hear the Word and Look to the Faithful Lord
Faith arises when you hear the word of Christ. Especially when you open your heart to the gospel message of Jesus' cross and resurrection, you are invited to trust Christ rather than yourself.
Romans 10:17
Faith is not the effort to force yourself into certainty. Trust grows as you learn who the faithful God is and how he has kept his promises. Abraham and David did not first receive every answer; they looked to God in their lives and moved forward one step at a time in faith.

Q. Is your faith growing now? If it is, write what has drawn you closer to the faithful God. If it has stalled, write which word you need to hear again and hold on to.
3. True Faith Moves Your Life
Biblical faith does not stop at agreement in your mind. It leads you to rely on God's grace and to act on his word even amid fear and testing. Faith does not say that you have no fear at all. It leads you to entrust yourself to the faithful God even within fear.

Abraham obeyed God's call without knowing everything about where he was going, and he held on to God's promise even in the most difficult test.

Q. In the situation you face now, what obedience and endurance could faith produce? Do not hide your feelings; write how you will rely on God there.
4. Salvation Is Received Through Faith
Salvation is not a reward earned by your works or merit. God gives righteousness without distinction to those who believe in Jesus Christ. Faith, therefore, is not a basis for boasting, but the way of laying down your own strength and holding on to Christ's cross and resurrection.
Romans 3:21-22
Faith that Jesus is the Son of God is connected with victory over the world. This is not a promise that every problem will disappear at once, but power that holds you in suffering and enables you to live according to God's will.
1 John 5:4-5
When a person hears and believes the word of the gospel, the Holy Spirit dwells within that believer and leads them into new life. The form and emotions of this change may differ from person to person, but the ground of salvation is Jesus Christ, not the intensity of your feelings.

Q. What change has faith in Jesus' cross and resurrection brought to your life and your relationship with God? If it is not yet clear, what would you like to hear or ask further?
5. Repent and Live in Reliance on Jesus
True faith moves together with repentance. Repentance is turning from a path where your own strength and will have been master, receiving Jesus as Lord, and relying on him. Faith is not hiding your inadequacy, but coming to Jesus with it.
Living by faith each day means laying down the attempt to complete yourself by your strength alone and relying on Christ in your home, work, school, and every relationship.
Galatians 2:19-20
Even when you are exhausted and have no strength to pray, you can come to God and trust that he exists and responds to those who seek him.
