The two most important things in the life of faith are salvation and the soul's growth. That is why we need to understand clearly how an unsaved soul comes to salvation, and how a saved soul grows. It is like a parent understanding how a child is conceived and born, and then how that child is raised and grows up.
What we will look at today is how a soul comes to salvation.

Three Factors in Salvation
The First Factor in Salvation
For a person to be saved, the Holy Spirit must first be at work.
The Second Factor in Salvation
There must be someone who works together with the Holy Spirit — an evangelist. The Holy Spirit does not work alone but works through us. This evangelist must pray. It is when we pray that the Holy Spirit works.

The word of the gospel is God's most powerful force. When its seed is planted well in a person's heart, that word goes to work and brings a soul to salvation. That is why the word matters so much.

The Third Factor in Salvation
The third factor is how the person themselves responds. Salvation happens when, upon hearing the gospel, that person opens their heart and receives it. "Lord, I will believe. I choose to believe." They must receive it with a sincere heart.
Even so, a clear and settled faith may not yet be there. But once a person opens their heart and receives it in this way, the Holy Spirit gives them faith in due time.
