My Love, My Church — Look Back and Meditate

Ephesians 1:22-23
Reflection Questions
Q. What kind of place is the church to you? What joy and pain have you experienced within the church?
1. The Risen Lord Is at Work in You
At the center of Christian faith are the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus' resurrection did not end as an event of the past. The risen Lord is alive today and works through the Holy Spirit within those who believe.
Romans 8:11
Your life of believing in Jesus and obeying his word cannot be completed by willpower alone. The Holy Spirit opens your eyes to understand the gospel and gives you strength to rise again when you fall, to love, and to forgive. The life of faith is not about proving your own strength; it is a journey of relying on the life of the risen Lord.

Q. Are you holding on only to your own strength right now, or are you asking for the help of the Holy Spirit who is at work within you?
2. The Church Was Built by Resurrection Life
Jesus said that he would build his church. The church is not an organization created only by human interest and ability, but Christ's community built on the gospel of the cross and resurrection.
Matthew 16:18
After Jesus ascended, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples at Pentecost. People who had remained in fear began to testify to the gospel, and a new community was formed in the word, fellowship, and prayer.
Acts 2:1-4
The life of the church is not found in the size of its building or the reputation of its people. When those who believe in the risen Christ worship and love together in the Holy Spirit, that is where the Lord's church is found.

Q. When you evaluate a church, do you look first at its outward size, or at the gospel and life flowing within it?
3. One Body with Christ as Its Head
People who believe in Jesus throughout the world form one church in Christ even if they never meet one another. At the same time, Scripture values churches that gather in particular places and take responsibility for one another.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
Christ is the head of the church, and those who believe are members connected to one another. Every member has a different role and gift, but no one is unnecessary. When each member fulfills their part in truth and love, the body grows strong and healthy.
Ephesians 4:15-16
A local church is not a gathering of people who have already been perfected. It is a community where people called by grace learn and grow together. Therefore, rather than comparing others or considering your own place insignificant, you are called to look to Christ, the head.

4. Life Flows Through the Church
The early church learned the apostles' teaching, shared fellowship, broke bread, and prayed together. Within that community, people shared what was needed, and the joy of the gospel spread to their neighbors.
Acts 2:42-47
The church proclaims the gospel to bring life, helps weary faith rise again, and carries God's love into the world. Worship and prayer, the word and care shared together uphold people who are struggling alone amid sin and discouragement. The church also does not remain turned inward, but serves its neighbors with the gospel and love.
Matthew 16:18-19
This mission is not about drawing people in through fear or condemnation. It is about the church first living out the grace of the gospel and staying patiently beside people whose hearts are closed through prayer and service.

Q. Through your community, who needs to receive the hope of the gospel and practical care right now?
5. Restore Your Love for the Church
There have been times when the church has disappointed the world and its neighbors, and some people have been hurt within the church. Their pain must not be dismissed or silenced with an appeal to love the church. Wrongdoing must be faced honestly, with the safety and recovery of those who have been harmed considered first.
Yet human failure does not erase what Christ intends to accomplish through the church. Loving the church does not mean concealing its problems; it means caring for the church truthfully and helping it change so that it lives in a manner worthy of the gospel. Rather than remaining in cynicism or indifference, you can pray and take part in the community's restoration within healthy boundaries.

6. Serve with the Grace You Have Received
The church is built when Christ is its head and each person takes part as a member. We first need to receive grace, but grace is given not to collect within you but to flow to others.
1 Peter 4:10
Service is not limited to visible roles. Small acts such as welcoming someone warmly, teaching a younger person, preparing meals and spaces, and listening to someone who is lonely also build up the body of Christ. Even if your gifts and experience seem small, when you offer them in love, they become a channel the community needs.

Q. How can you use the grace and gifts you have received for one person this week?
7. Love and Forgive
Misunderstandings and mistakes can happen in a church where people live together. You too may hurt others or be hurt. In such moments, love does not pretend that no wrong occurred; it asks Christ for help so that even as you speak the truth, hatred does not rule your heart.
Colossians 3:12-15
Forgiveness does not mean allowing harm to continue or immediately returning to the former relationship. If abuse or danger continues, you may need to maintain a safe distance and seek help from trusted people and qualified professionals. Reconciliation can be considered slowly when responsibility and change accompany it.

Q. What hatred do you need to release in love, and what healthy boundaries do you need to keep at the same time?
8. Serve One Another in Humility
Roles, age, and experience within the church do not increase or diminish a person's worth. Everyone is a member saved by grace and called to listen to one another and willingly work together out of reverence for Christ.
Ephesians 5:21
Submitting to one another does not mean obeying unjust demands made through the misuse of authority. It means not insisting on your own rights, but respecting one another and seeking the good of the community in keeping with the will and love of Christ, the head. Through humble service, the church reveals Christ's love in this world.
