A Father's Love

Where should we look in moments that are more than we can bear by our own strength? I would like to follow with you the patience and compassion of the father in the parable of the prodigal son.
Facing the Limits of Being Human
As I stayed by someone's side through the final moments of their life, I faced the truth that even someone who loves us cannot bear every moment in our place. At that time, I looked again toward the God who is with us not only in life's peaceful seasons, but also in places of fear and limitation. When you face a moment that feels too hard to bear, I hope we can consider together the faith that you are not alone.
The Desire for Independence
We may appear strong, yet even small things can easily shake us. At times, we think we can live solely by our own strength, without God. But just as a kite whose string is cut does not become free but loses its direction, we can consider together where freedom apart from a relationship with God takes us.
The prodigal son left his father to live as he pleased. In him, I see our own desire to leave our relationship with God and pursue only what we want. Does following every desire really lead us to satisfaction?
Why We Can Return
After the prodigal son had lost everything, his remaining hope was not his own ability, but his father. The scene in which the father sees his son while he is still far away appears in Luke 15:20.
In the father who waited without giving up on the son who had left, I see God's love. Rather than condemning ourselves because we have experienced failure or loss, I hope we can consider together the fact that the way home is still open.
A Love That Welcomes with Compassion
When the prodigal son returns, his father is moved with compassion and welcomes him. I believe this scene does not treat wrongdoing lightly; instead, it shows compassion that does not turn away from a person who is overwhelmed.
The God I encounter in the Bible is patient with us and rich in mercy. I would like to share with you my faith that this love reaches us where we are today.
The Joy of Being a Son Again
The father prepares a good robe, a ring, and sandals, and rejoices over the son who was lost and has been found again. We find this scene in Luke 15:22-24. In this welcome, I see a broken relationship restored and a new life beginning.
Returning to God is not simply a matter of fulfilling a religious obligation. It is returning to the embrace that welcomes us back as beloved children. Rather than forcing this belief on anyone, I would like us to consider together what the father's love and the restoration of relationship might mean for us.
